Who Dropped Prices
Novo Nordisk: The Biggest Move
Novo slashed the entry point for Wegovy in two ways. First, the oral Wegovy tablet launched at $149/month for the starting doses — a price point that undercuts most compounded programs. Second, injectable Wegovy is now available through NovoCare Pharmacy at an introductory $199/month for the two lowest doses, down from the previous $499/month cash-pay rate.
This is a strategic move to pull patients away from compounded alternatives and into the brand-name ecosystem. It's working: several compounding pharmacy closures in early 2026 have already reduced the supply of compounded semaglutide.
Eli Lilly: Oral Foundayo Arrives
Lilly's oral GLP-1 (orforglipron, branded as Foundayo) launched with an introductory price of $149/month for the starting dose, with higher strengths ranging from $199 to $299/month. This is significant because Foundayo is a daily pill with no food-timing restrictions — unlike oral Wegovy which still requires specific dosing conditions.
Medicare GLP-1 Bridge
Starting July 1, 2026, eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries will have access to Wegovy and Zepbound at a flat $50/month copay through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge demonstration program. This runs through December 2027 and could reshape pricing pressure across the entire market.
Who Raised Prices
Several compounded providers have quietly increased rates at higher dose tiers. This reflects two pressures: reduced competition as FDA enforcement has forced smaller compounding pharmacies to close, and rising ingredient costs as fewer 503B facilities produce compounded GLP-1 active ingredients.
